Textile Design: Alhambra Sunset Watercolor Dye Painting

The inspiration for this painting was the famous wall of mosaics located at the Alhambra in Spain. Artists including M.C. Escher found great inspiration in the color and geometric shapes of these mosaics. Geometric shapes in architectural buildings have always been inspirational to textile designs and I wanted to create a painting that drew from this inspiration in a modern wearable way. Shown at the bottom of the images is this design I created on a mockup modified into a repeating border pattern for apparel.
